Buxton Associates - Consulting Structural Engineers
Buxton Associates promotes the art and
science of structural design within the field of consulting
engineering.
We are by choice a small practice and
we have identified a specific niche in the market where
a consulting structural engineers practice such as ours
meets precisely the requirements of clients, architects,
surveyors and other professionals involved in the construction
process.
Contract Value
We are primarily employed on projects with values of up
to £10m, although we have undertaken larger projects
for selected clients. Contracts of considerably higher value
are usually covered by the larger operators.
We prefer to commence our involvement
at the early stages of a project so as to provide initial
design advice at the feasibility stage, ensuring that the
most economical solutions are considered.

Buxton Associates has experience of the full range of consulting
engineering activity.
We are involved in new build, refurbishment, repairs and
investigation.
Change Of Use Refurbishment
Refurbishment frequently goes hand in hand with change of
use. If a building is to be used for a purpose different
from that for which it was built there can be a myriad of
issues which must be considered.
Such assignments often involve considerable
structural re-modelling of the building, including the addition,
removal or relocation of staircases, lift shafts, etc. It
may also be necessary to justify or strengthen floors to
support specific or increased loadings. The associated structural
designs may be complex, requiring appraisal of the existing
structure prior to the design of the necessary alterations.
Refurbishment For
Repair
We are often appointed to advise on residential and office
building projects which require refurbishment due to problems
with the initial design or construction.
In the London area there are numerous
steel framed buildings which are brick and stone clad. Many
are pre-war buildings and water has permeated the cladding,
causing corrosion of the steel and pushing out the brickwork.
Our experience of this type of project is extensive and
we have developed systems to facilitate the inspection and
remedial works. please see projects

Bespoke Alterations
An example of this type of project was the removal of a
war memorial weighing 20Tonnes from within a City of London
location to a new headquarters building in London Docklands.
We have also been involved in the design
of additional floors above existing buildings in order to
provide additional accommodation.
New Build
We carry out new build projects, of which recent examples
include a nursing home, flats and industrial buildings.
We have experience of new build construction on both green
field and brown field sites.
